Pixie's Crafty Snippets - Week 56

As always, my own snippets card first:
I used:

- 6" x 6" square white card stock

- Penny Black Stickeroo from the ''It's a Boy' sheet

- snippets of blue SU 'Marina Mist' card plus another paler one which might be 'Baja Breeze'

- a lace corner below the image, stamped using the Joanna Sheen 'Live Each Moment' set onto a snippet of white card  SU's 'Baja Breeze' then trimmed wiv little scissors

- sentiment is from the SU 'Petite Pairs' set, stamped using 'Marina Mist', punched with a SU circle punch and mounted onto a scalloped circle

- two 7" snippets of blue gingham ribbon - tying the bow was fun and very fiddly with such a short piece I can tell you!

- a selection of Wild Orchid flowers. The wire twists are just snipped from the flower stems and curled round a poky tool - the frondy leaves were punched. The punch hates card so I just coloured some paper using a Pro Marker before punching them out

- pearls from the 'gem box'

- plaster for the finger I burnt using the glue gun came from the First Aid box - just checking you're still reading :)

OK, so the flowers are truly taxing for me to use - this will be confirmed further down this post. Bev Rochester need have no fear of competition from this quarter for sure!

And now, the Playground - well, what a busy week. In between the excitement of Darnell's wedding anniversary, plus the snow here in the UK - we also had some wonderfully heartening news from our Bernie, so keep those prayers and positive thoughts going girls.

We had 41 lovely makes brought to the Playground this week - and these are the ones that especially caught my eye:

Both the above were posted by Victoria - what a fabulous butterfly canvas and such a great use of snippets!  Along with others, I almost had an accident laughing at Jeff the dog :)

Viv linked the above card - absolutely gorgeous - and the doily had almost been thrown out 'cos one edge was crumpled! Swift bit of chopping and what a lovely card resulted!
And a little Playmate tiptoed into the Playground this week - please welcome Debbie back, I know some of you already have been over to say 'Hello'. Debbie, bless her, suffers from a lack of confidence in her gorgeous work so I was delighted to see her coming to play again and to show the above fabulous tag book/card, please do hop over - and while you're there take a peek at the beautiful icing flowers she makes - one very talented lady!

ALL of your makes were gorgeous as always girls!

OK, so the little draw for the Paperarsy  PaperArtsy stamp.

I have to admit I squeaked when I saw whose name popped up this week - it's not her first win, but I do know the prize will be well loved, used a lot and was very much wanted. It was drawn fair and square using the Random number generator (Len hasn't found time to help me with Linux Gimp yet to show the results, he was shovelling snow when I typed this) so I do hope you'll all be pleased for:

Right, back to those flowers! Kath, of 'Plain and Simple', and I both have quite similar thoughts about crafting - ha, but not always about my recipes on Friday Feast though, eh Kath?! :)

We both struggle with adding flowers to cards - especially the admittedly fabulous Wild Orchid ones, and Kath has 'thrown in the towel'. A mahoosive box of flowers arrived from her the week before last to offer as a lovely giveaway - and I added some of my own as well as I've also thrown in my face cloth, whilst retaining some opened packets, and hate to see goodies just languishing :)
There are 14 packets in this little haul now - ranging from large, medium, small and tiny roses through to cherry blossoms, calla lilies and even some Christmas roses and white poinsettias.

So, if you want to join in the Playground fun and frolics and be in with a chance of winning this little 'florist shop' - the Playground is open all of this coming week but it will close on Saturday 26th January at noon, UK time and Mr Linky is below as usual. Just enter a snippets make into the Playground this week and I'll do a draw after the Playground closes next Saturday. But, I am asking for a snippets make please, maximum of three entries and please say 'No thank you' in a comment if you DON'T want to be entered 'cos once again I do realise that not all of you are into adding these sorts of flowers to your 'makes'. You can of course enter as many snippets makes as you like but only a maximum of three goes will be counted.

I'll post to anywhere in the World BTW - it's open to all of you lovely Playmates.

I'd like to enter my own snippets card into the following challenges:

Penny Black Saturday January Challenge which is 'January Blues'

Allsorts Challenge - Week 190 - 'Flower Power'

Hope you all have a lovely week!

Di

  3. LOVE your sweet Penny Black card Di and you've made GREAT use of the flowers - even though they are out of your comfort zone.

Whilst I use flowers on my cards, I tend to punch out or die-cut my own from co-ordinating paper/card so I'll say no thank you to your give-away.

  4. Gorgeous card Di, I think sorry know I need that stamp set now. Hope your finger feels better soon. I am not allowed a hot glue gun, hubbie says the clue why is in the name, I thought glue or maybe hot but he said no gun, I am so clumsy I would end up shooting myself, my he knows me so well lol. I will be back later with a make and I am also a no thank you for the flowers have a few, not many as I know I won't use them. Hugs, Amanda x

  5. Hi Di

Loving your card and the highlighted projects .. .. there is so much inspiration in the playground.

One little tip .. .. you don't always need a hot glue gun to use the flowers. Sometimes (if the stem is thin) I just make a hole and poke the stem through it and hold it down with tape on the back.

Plus if you are not too safe with the glue gun in your hand then if you work quickly you can keep the glue gun standing up on your desk, squeeze the trigger and grab some of the glue with a cocktail stick. Transfer this to your flower and plonk the bloom where you want it!! I quite often do this.

    More snow happening here! Eeeekkk!!

Catch you later with my snippet make.

    Happy Sunday.

    Love Jules xx

  11. Those are beautiful flowers, Di, and very tempting to buy, but I never know what to do with them either. Mine will get passed on to someone else who can play with them. Thank you for opening up the playground today, and make sure you have plenty of plasters ready for the injuries on the icy slide. xx Maggie PS I have got the hot chocolate to put on the tortoise stove to keep hot.

  15. Hi Di, entered my card earlier but then had to go out unexpectedly so didn't have time to leave a comment.

LOVE your snippet make! I didn't know you could get that image as a Stickeroo. Perfect stripey background and beautifully arranged flowers - doesn't look like you struggled at all.

The photo of Jeff made me giggle.

  17. P.S. When is Mrs A making a Snow Donkey then? I have thrown the gauntlet down now if anyone else wants to make one!! xx

  18. Your card is oh so sweet. Love everything about it. All those beautiful flowers. They are perfect! About your glue gun run in....been there and it isn't fun! I switched from hot glue to Ulimate Glue, takes a bit to dry, but much easier on the fingers. And then there are glue dots. Gotta love them too. Have fun crafting.

  19. Oh l'm unlucky number 13!!!!!

Lovely PB card Miss Di, adorable use of the flowers, l have some flowers but never know how to include them in my design and for that reason l'll say 'no thank you very much' for the kind offer of the chance to win.

    More snow here, yuck :(

    Have a great Monday xx

  20. Such a sweet baby card, Di! I love that little lace corner and the pretty flowers! I was going to play but I don't see a linky. I tried to refresh but still don't see it. Has one of the girls hidden it somewhere on the Playground or is it buried in the snow?

  21. Hahaha, poor Jeff, we used to have a doggie like him, we blamed him for everything when we were kids!! Lovely little card, very blue, perfect for PBSC. Stunning flowers! I might be tempted to make another snippet make so I can have another go in the draw!!

  22. Well, I used Google this time, so I hope I got this linking bit done properly! Just loved this delightful baby card. Your lace nappy at the bottom is adorable. (like that Brit slang..nappy. Does this mean I'm watching too many Brit sitcoms? LOL) I'm a sucker for those hedgie stamps anyhoo, and you did a fine job with this one...not seen this image. Congrats to the Big Winner as well. Can't wait to see what lovelies will be created with the prize. Somebody needs to get crackin' and clean up some snow. (Oh, I dunno how to shovel, by the way. I failed Shovel 101). Hugs

  23. Your making rather a lot of baby cards! Is there sumfink we should no about!
Now looky here just cos I gots loads of snow dosen't mean I can just go and build a donkey. What will the neighbours think and then he will need a stable built too!!
    Hugs Mrs A.

  25. Hope I'm still allowed on the swings Di - sorry I've not been in the playground for ages. I'm currently trying to trim down my craft room so I'm a no thanks to the prize.

I LOVE your little hedgie - he's so cute. That butterfly canvas from last week you picked out is really cool too.

Hope Len's dug you out OK - stay safe and warm.

  26. Hi again, Checked back to see if the thumbnail 'took' when I tried earlier. Didn't see it, so trying again. Stay warm in that snow...lots of hot chocolate needed for the shoveler, or some coffee laced with 'something' to keep him warm. LOL.

  27. Fantastic snippet card, Di! Just adorable! I especially like how you used the plaster bit that came off your burn. Do be careful, sister!

You did an awesome job recapping the highlights of the week! No thank you from me for the flowers. But thank you from me for letting Jeff make an encore appearance in your post. I wasn't expecting him and, once again, he made more laundry for me!!

Mwah! Thanks for the Snippy Fun!!

  28. Hi Di, your card is lovely and the WOC cherry blossom matches perfectly. I wouldn't like to count how many times I've burned myself on the hot glue - see, I was still reading!!!

Loved the Victoria's butterfly canvas and Jeff stole my heart ... I said, heart ... his teeth just got me and he's just set me off again :))

It seems every week that the playmates come up with ever more ingenuous ideas on how to use up our snippets, e.g. Bubbles 'grandfather clock, this week! I think it's possible that we would run out of snippets before ideas on how to use them up.

Flapjack coming your way :) Hugs, Elizabeth xx

  29. Forgot ... just count me out for the flowers. I have so many in my stash as it is - any more would just be greedy :)

  30. I'm back. Why is it when I'm cleaning my craft room, I find something I want to turn into a card. I think I'm going to spend the next rainy day making more. I just won't put on a sentiment...then I will have cards ready in a hurry. I'll just add a sentiment.

  31. Hey there - here I am. Came over to play :-D xxxxxxxxxx

  32. Me again. I am so full of play this week. I love it when I can be ahead of the game and not running to catch up. Thanks so much for keeping me moving forward and I'm loving using my scraps. One question, why is the scrap box not empty? Have a great weekend.

  33. This card really is sweet Di - I love the image, and you have done a brilliant job with the snippets!!! As for Jeff - I laughed so loud that I nearly did what he'd done! Ooops.
